Don't throw out your old laptop...put it to good use with this DIY project
By Lacey Ackerman
I have two old laptops that just sit on the top rack of my coat closet. While cleaning/organizing the space, I realized I have an odd attachment to the computers. I kept thinking there had to be some other use for them and that's when the google search began. And I was happy to find an option for the laptops' afterlife:
Create a Digital Frame
This is a good option if you've been looking to purchase one, but find they are just too expensive...you can even give it as a gift. This requires just a little bit of hacking, but here is a step-by-step list to help guide you along.
- First, you'll need to create a Flickr account, if you don't have one already, and upload your photos.
- Purchase a frame that is large enough to fit your laptop screen inside.
- Download Slickr and link it to your Flickr credentials
- Remove the LCD screen from the laptop carefully (gently unplug ribbon cable that attaches the two)
- Arrange those internals into the framebox as necessary
- Connect the photo frame to Wi-Fi
- Enjoy your Flickr photos as a slideshow!

You´re kidding right? Remove the LCD...ha ha. How many are going to try this. It´s a good idea...but a tad impractical.
