Chat Roulette...Really?
By: Lacey Ackerman
We live in an advanced world. Where the technological possibilities seem endless. There's a new fad in the house: Chat Roulette, where you can surf from stranger to stranger, linking your webcam with other peoples' webcams. You don't like what you see? You simply hit "Next" and Voila! You went from a woman in Australia to a bunch of teenagers in Germany. Users come from all over the globe.
If you ask me, Chat Roulette just sounds wrong, creepy and downright dangerous. It was created by a 17-year-old in Moscow, has about 850,000 users and is still growing. I'm not a parent, but I can imagine how they feel about this. And yes, just like expected, it does get a bit obscene. Now if this new fad becomes censored, it may be just a smidge more safe. Still crazy, but more protected.
Some argue that this can be considered a new form of online networking. So, which is greater...the risk or potential gain? I think we know the answer to that. And you thought your standard chat room was dangerous. It has been brought to a whole new level.
