I Love My Apple TV!
By: Elaine Levins
When the Apple TV debuted, my husband immediately wanted one. After all, we're Apple fans, and it looked like a pretty cool thing to have.
We've had our Apple TV for a few years now, and I don't think I could live without it. I have very little interest in regular television programming; I mean, really, how many shows about cops, crime, forensics and hospitals do we really need? And I refuse to give the thieving evil cable company any more of my hard-earned money in order to subscribe to the premium channels. Before the Apple TV, that left me with such television treasures as "Rock of Love" and "Whose Wedding is it Anyway?" (which I have watched by the way - and that fact makes me feel dirty.)
"But," you ask, "couldn't you just watch DVDs?" Why, yes. As a matter of fact, I have hundreds of DVDs - movies, complete television series', etc. But DVDs take up a lot of space, especially when you have an entire TV series. Plus, you have to actually get off your rear-end to put the DVD in the DVD player. (Yes, I know I'm lazy, but the world is just going to have to learn to live with that.)
The benefits of the Apple TV are many. One, you don't need to have DVDs lying all over the place. Once we digitized our movies and TV shows, we were able to box them all up and store them away. Plus, once you've digitized a DVD, you can make a back-up; that way, if the disc ever gets damaged, you still have the content. Two, and I can't stress this enough, YOU DON'T HAVE TO GET OFF YOUR BUTT! This is important on a dreary Sunday afternoon, when all you want to do is sit around watching old episodes of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." With the Apple TV, I can watch the entire 7-season series, without ever leaving the sofa. With a DVD player, I would have to get up to change discs every few episodes. Three, you can watch YouTube videos or rent movies right through the Apple TV. And I have purchased great cable series like "Dexter," "Weeds," and "Big Love" through iTunes, which I can now watch any time I want, on my Apple TV.
It's a beautiful thing.
