Free Hospitality for Being Creative?
By: Christina Smith

Elvine, a contemporary clothing store in Gothenburg, Sweden found a unique way to give back to society. Elvine and Next Century Modern, a Swedish design agency, partnered to create “Creators Inn”. The inn offers free accommodation to creative professionals who provide “valid reasons” for staying. For example, a valid reason would be a “creative activity preferably together with local creators or something that incorporates the city in some way”. While at the inn, visitors are provided with free wireless Internet, towels, slippers, and bathrobes. Elvine’s goal is to create a comfortable, creative work environment free of charge. In turn, their inn is attracting individuals from around the world, creating tourism for the town of Gothenburg, Sweden. “By offering visiting creators free accommodation, we hope to remind people of a lovely little thing called hospitality. And in addition to making the visiting creators happy and Gothenburg a more interesting city because of their presence, we hope this simple idea can be exported and implemented around the globe. What a wonderful world that would result in.” This is a truly a unique concept! Supporting the creative world all the while giving back to the town of Gothenburg, Sweden. In addition, their concept is something out of the ordinary. It's new and exciting. This is the first time I've heard of a free inn exclusively for creative individuals. Pretty cool. Elvine's next goal is to create worldwide acceptance of this program, hopefully offering free accommodations at other hotels in Europe to creative professionals all over the world.
