Capture: A WAVES Documentary

By Lacey Ackerman
Although I'm no surfer, I can say that I do respect the lifestyle. It's a whole separate culture. Not only is surfing a recreational sport, but a spiritual activity. The act of connecting with the ocean makes this such a free-spirited and relaxing way of life. Surfing has influenced fashion, music, even terminology and there are many organizations out there supporting the lifestyle. One in particular: WAVES for Development.

This organization "believes that surf travel should benefit the people and the communities where it happens. WAVES creates life-enriching experiences in coastal communities through Educational Surf programs that develop youth into healthy & empowered adults and Surf Voluntourism programs that engage travelers & transform their world view."

A good friend of mine has recently become involved with the creation of Capture: A WAVES Documentary. This film will feature surf travelers visiting the community of Lobitos, Peru, where they dedicate time to the children, allowing them to enrich their outlooks on life, building confidence and self-expression.

I advise you to check out the production blog to see news and updates on how the project is progressing. Enjoy!
