Comcast Announces Xfinity

By Casey Knox

Comcast announced that they would be launching a new brand name, along with new upgrades to current products and new services made available on the internet to already existing customers. In my opinion if ever there was a time for a rebranding of this magnatude now would be the time.  With the launch of the new services, the message being sent to the consumer is.... this is not the same old Comcast.  And with the somewhat negative satisfaction ratings this might just be what is needed.

The new upgrades include a faster internet, more HD and other channels, thousands of shows and movies online for customers to watch whenever they want, and a promise to customers to keep innovating. Though the "X" in Xfinity is a slightly cheesy reference to an "x" factor the use of the word infinity in the name helps support the position of constant innovation.  The logo is done simply in a similar typeface as Comcast and uses the company's trademark red. Overall a well done reposition by the Brownstein Group, a Philadelphia brand communication, public relation and advertising firm. Now that they have a shiney new dress let hope they can keep up with thier promises and deliver better services to the consumer now and into the future.

I agree that a leopard can't change its spots. Comcast has a lot of issues regarding customer service, that's ultimately why I had to discontinue their TV service from them. I can understand re-branding and the marketing gimmick, but they will always be just plain old Comcast to me. At DISH Network we haven't changed our name and still have lower prices on our programming than Comcast. As a DISH Network customer and employee I switched from Comcast to DISH, and have never been happier with my pay TV service.

I love Comcast. I have never had any problems with them and their customer service has always been spot on with what should be expected from a company. Mostly I think the complaints come from a society of people who like to blame their problems on everybody but themselves. And yes I''ve read some complaints and reviews and most of the time come out feeling like saying welcome to America home of the home of the buck passers.

If they are trying to improve their service, as well as their image, then I applaud their effort. If they change their branding and fail to address their poor customer service, then I believe this image overhaul will be a huge waste of time & money.

Comcast stinks. Xfinity will stink. A leopard can''t change his spots. And even when you put lipstick on a pig, it''s a pig.
