Verisign raising .com and .net domain wholesale pricing – again.

I'm not alone in finding Versign's successive domain name pricing increases dubious at best. Personally, I fail to understand how scale and reach fails to decrease costs for Verisign, when almost all other technologies cost less overtime.

SEO dashes versus underscores: sometimes you learn things you would rather not know

URL rewriting takes variable-based URLs (e.g., www.domain.com?id=3) and converts them to human text-based URLs (e.g., www.domain.com/hello-world.html). It helps SEO and it makes a page easier to reference. The debate: which to use, underscores or dashes?

Posterous.com is a remarkable and simple blogging and social media tool!

Probably the simplest and best executed blogging tool I've ever seen, Posterous.com allows you to create blog entries by simply emailing or texting. It's so unbelievably easy. Of course, you can link to other social media and add content normally too.

Google's Chrome Frame Plug-in For Internet Explorer – Conquering From Within

An interesting approach to speeding along the much-needed death of IE6 (and later versions.) Google's developing a plug-in that basically runs Chrome within IE inside a frame.

Funny sarcastic design & infomercial spoof

A funny design related infomerical spoof. A definite instant internet classic. Not sure of the origins, simply found it on YouTube.com - but it's hysterical.

Sexy buttons with CSS (a minor improvement)

All praise and honors for this technique fall upon the originator, Alex Griffioen, and an excellent tutorial can be found on this site (link in article). My improvement addresses a specific issue using this technique to replace a submit button on forms.

Roost Redesign... Yay or Nay?

As I mentioned in previous post, I’m very fond of looking at houses. I could search real estate sites for hours everyday and never get bored. If I weren’t a graphic designer, I’d seriously consider becoming a real estate agent.

How frequently should you update your website design?

We're often asked by clients how frequently should they overhaul their website's design? And they don't mean a subtle refresh or simple changes in content, but a complete redesign. Our answer... the average is 2-3 years.

Graphic design is not a commodity - e.g., crowdsourcing design

Crowd sourcing design seems like an economical solution in hard times. There are plenty of design commodity sites where you can purchase canned designs or present projects as contests - but design is not a widget. One size does not fit all.

Web designers and developers should incorporate SEO fundamentals

Web designers and developers should incorporate SEO fundamentals

If you hire a web designer or developer and they don't address the basics of search engine optimization (SEO) as part of the web design project...find yourself another web company. SEO should be part of the web design, not an afterthought.
