The end of the year...all is calm....all is quiet

By William Levins
Almost every year, depending on when the holidays fall, we get to look up from our computers and breathe...and enjoy ourselves.

We plan to enjoy our holidays....

We work hard all year long...that when Christmas and New Years approaches, we're relieved when the phones die down a bit. We know that they'll ring off the hook come the first week of the year. So we like to relax and enjoy ourselves during our short, but well-earned down time. Some years, we even close for the week or two around Christmas and New Years. I realized long ago that coming into the office and staring around wishing you were somewhere else isn't going to help our creativity or create good results. So we kick-back and relax.

Sure, we have some years where there's some crucial project that's culminating or in full swing...so the holiday downtime isn't available to us. But this year...we're in luck. Lot's of projects finished up in late November or early December so we've got no pressure on us this year. We're using the time to rekindle our creative energies. Clients have discovered that each of us has scheduled a week off. It's just how it worked out this December. And I think it'll help us be energized for the new year. After all, it's usually the first week where the phones crank up again....as everyone, us and our clients, get back to the office and get our heads in the game.

Looking forward to a prosperous new year....

In the new year we'll be back hard at work helping our clients sell stuff and be successful. And that's fine, we love to do it. But until then...we're going to take it easy...and enjoy time away from the office. After all, we've had our marketing strategy meetings for 2011 already. Plans are made....projects are already underway (just not on deadline). And we've got our own promotional activities ready to fire too.

We're positive it's going to be a good year again. Most of our clients have seen a modest improvement over 2009 this year and they too are looking forward to 2011 being better. And we're certainly going to work with them to make that happen. But for now...we'll be eating cookies, drinking egg nog, and listening to Christmas music...and of course watching It's a Wonderful Life and other holiday classics. Yeah, we'll probably sprinkle in some work too...but until then...more cookies. So happy holidays and happy new year to everyone.
