Procrastination
By Casey Knox
So... time for me to blog, and I have procrastinated past the point of no return. I have a hard time writing blogs so it would make sense that I put it off for as long as I can. Luckily, for this blog, my habitual downfall has become my inspiration.
Why do we procrastinate?
I imagine we do it for different reasons. Fear of failing, the thrill or rush from approaching something last minute, or maybe its just hard and you are not feeling inspired. Which, for me, is the reason I procrastinate blogging. Man... I can come up with a thousand different ways to put color and type to paper like nobody's business. But ask me to write about something, and a dull buzz rings in my head.
So how do we overcome this
- Inspiration is a little tougher than just procrastinating, but if you don't set aside the time to dedicate to finding that inspiration, it's never gonna happen. So, like Nike says…"Just do it".
- If you're feeling like you can do it later, it's probably better to just sit down and get it started. Set yourself a deadline and meet it.
- Pull whatever you are trying to do apart into small steps and accomplish your goal one piece at a time.
- Keep yourself away from distraction, even if it means turning off the internet or holding all calls.
- Don't worry about perfection, just get a rough draft, and then go back and refine (or in my case, hand off to an Elaine and have her clean up the English.) If you don't have one, I highly recommend you get an Elaine - they are very efficient.
