McDonald's website. I'm lovin' it.

McDonald's Web Site

I drive past McDonald's every day. Breakfast always smells delicious, and I've fallen victim to its allure on more than one morning. But today, I chose to visit McDonald's website. And I was blown away - it's a terrific example of good design and a great user experience.

I truly didn't expect such a nice design. Most large corporate sites, especially those selling "fast food" or consumer products are examples of bad design, and bloated features, and advertising attack. That is, they try to tell you every thing they do and offer on their home page. Or they try to promote their latest 10 things...it ends up being information overload.

But McDonald's site is the extreme opposite. A simple layout that unfolds its information and offerings easily. A single large offer on the home page, with some subordinate promos beneath. Want more? The simple left nav reveals mega menu navigation that allows you to quickly find what you're looking for, with a single click usually.

So kudos to McDonald's and their web team / agency. You've done a terrific job, and you deserve praise for your combination of branding and minimalism and a brilliant user interface. And the food photography is terrific too. Makes me want some McDonald's food. Hmmm...only a short while to lunch. Perhaps your wonderful web design will also convert into a lunch time sale.
