MMORPG networking FTW…
By Casey Knox
Are you a geek? I don't know about you... but I happen to love MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games). Which inevitably categorizes me as a geek, so instead of being ashamed of it….I embrace it. Not only is it an entertainment departure from the Reality TV swill which is invading our society today, but it also has served as a great way to meet people from around the world and NETWORK.Maybe it's the fact that we can be creative from home offices, or mobile laptops, the regular 9-5 grind not applying to the impossible deadlines set for projects….but I have found that a large amount of my comrades-in-arms while playing these games also happen to be my creative contemporaries.
A Flash website guru in Canada, a photo restorer in Florida, loads of back end website programmers from all over the United States, and talent as far away as Australia.
In fact recently I reached out to one of these people on a project to have a video made (not my expertise). It made me happy not to have to teach myself a video editing program overnight, and our client was very happy they didn't have to go to 50 different vendors to get what they needed accomplished. WIN WIN all around.
So for all you naysayers and eyerollers who think that spending time glued to a chair trying to destroy the evil troll which guards the castle is a waste of time and brain cells... Instead of getting out more, maybe you should log on more.
