New Photography Technology called Lytro
By Casey Knox
There is a new photography technology out there from a company named Lytro. The new technology is called a light field camera. While i could try and explain the science of how it works you would do better to visit lytro.com and read it from the experts themselves. What does it do? it allows you to take a picture without spending time focusing, because you can focus after the shot is taken. Let me show you what I'm talking about. Click on the image and watch it focus on the point you are clicking.
You might say well that's kind of neat but what does that mean for me. It means that you can snap a picture spur of the moment and not worry about if it is in focus or not. You will be able to go back in later and focus it however looks best. You can also share these "living" photos with friends and they can manipulate it to their liking. Whats best is that the inventor of this camera Ren Ng intends to market it to the regular consumer. Which means it should be affordable for everyone to use. With the way our social networks have boomed and most of it based on sharing photos I imagine this should be a big hit.
Another neat feature to these photos is a 3D like effect manipulation you can do to these "living" photos. Here is a video explaining how it works. It gets a little technical but truely demonstrates the capabilities of using a light field camera.
While Ren Ng is excited to provide a technology that will help people take great pictures easier, he is also excited to see what the creatives may come up with to use the "living" photographs to tell a story. Excited to see where this technology will be taken.
