Bored with Dummy Text?

By Casey Knox
In the course of creating designs, we are sometimes called upon to put "placeholder" or "dummy" text into our designs. We do this of course to show clients what end pieces will look like, without distracting them from the design to worry about how a piece should be worded. The standard for this "dummy text" is something called Lorem Ipsum, and when read it makes no sense. But it has a ring of some sort of Latin to it and, if you are like me, you have long since gotten bored with it. Below are some sources for spicing up your Lorem Ipsum.

Blind Text Generator

This web tool generates text for you and you get to tell it the style, how many words/characters and paragraphs you need.  It has your standard Lorem Ipsum as well as some fun Kafkaesque and Pangram styles. Go to site.

Lorem Ipscream

This site is a little less utilitarian and more about poking fun of Lorem Ipsum. At Loremipscream.com you get to order up your favorite flavor of dummy text. It has a few flavors but in my opinion could use more variety. Go to site.

For Website Mock Ups: HTML-Ipsum

I guess there might be a call for this somewhere. Go to site.

For Gangstas: Lorizzle

For the Snoop Dog in all of us. Go to site.

My Favorite: Corporate Ipsum

When you just can't get enough of the "corporate-ese" in the English Language. This one is a Widget so you must have a Mac, but it is great and also allows you to program just how much annoying corporate speak you need. Download the Widget.
