Learn to Spell
By Elaine Levins
Around the office, I'm known as a bit of a spelling "Nazi." I've always been a good speller, and I will admit that I get more than a little upset at some pretty common misspellings.
I do understand that, to some degree, being good at spelling is a "gift:" A gift that not everyone possesses. However, at the same time, I do believe that proper spelling, grammar, vocabulary, etc. are important, especially in a communication business such as ours. I do believe that, in today's tech-heavy environment, many of us have let our spelling and vocabulary skills go by the wayside. That's why I was particularly amused by a comic I found on theoatmeal.com.
Called Ten Words You Need to Stop Misspelling, this comic addresses 10 of the most commonly misspelled/misused words. It's funny, (although it may be offensive to some... be forewarned) and it actually does give some "helpful hints." Check it out!
