The campaign, I Am Here, effectively takes a homeless man off the streets
By Lacey Ackerman
Mobile Loaves & Fishes, a non-profit organization and T3 agency, created the "I Am Here" campaign, in an effort to raise awareness of the local homeless community in Austin, Texas. This campaign was proven effective when it helped Danny Silver, a former steelworker, and his wife move into a refurbished RV through MLF's Habitat on Wheels program.
How Did They Do It?
We live in a mobile-obsessed world, as Bill can tell you in his blog,
"It's getting harder and harder to stay social with social media." Using
mobile devices as a way to advertise and raise awareness on issues such
as this one, is highly effective in today's society.
The two organizations created a billboard that read, "I am Danny. I am homeless. I am here." And he literally was; at select times Danny resided on the billboard catwalk, 50 feet above I-35. Funds were raised by asking people to text "Danny" to 20222.
Aside from the billboard, a public service announcement was also created, which clearly demonstrated the power of "mobile giving."
And of course, what is a campaign without a website? T3 created an informative site, including Danny's background story, a live Twitter feed, instructions on how to get involved, media coverage and more.
Like I had mentioned before, there was a happy ending as Danny and his wife, Maggie, were able to move into their new home. And being reunited with their estranged daughter (due to the campaign) was the icing on the cake. Although the campaign seems to focus on one man's story, it's actually much more than that. This campaign will hopefully make people realize that there is a story behind every person and not all choose to live without a home.
