Moving Daily Show Clip from 9/20/01

By Elaine Levins
After the tragic events of 9/11, the country was obviously shaken. TV shows (especially comedies) were unsure how and when to return to form. I remember when Saturday Night Live returned on 9/29/01, and Mayor Giuliani was on: Lorne Michaels asked, "Can we be funny?" and the Mayor replied, "Why start now?" The show was  a tribute to the victims and the heroes of that day, but more importantly, it was a bit of a return to "normalcy."

I had never seen the following clip until today. I found a link to it on reddit.com, and I was surprised and moved by it, so I thought I would share it on this blog. I am a fan of Jon Stewart: he's smart, clever and funny, and I really enjoy The Daily Show. But even if you are not a fan of Jon Stewart or The Daily Show, I think you'll be moved by this: the intro to his first show after the events of September 11 - aired on 9/20/01.
