Chilean Winers in honor of the Chilean miners
By Lacey Ackerman
Unreal, a British design firm, decided to give their clients their own wine dedicated to the Chilean miners as Christmas gifts this year, rather than another popcorn tin. The wine, called Chilean Winers, are limited-edition bottles, not for sale, strictly for gifts only.
The team created 33 different bottles, each named after one of the miners that have spent 69 days trapped in the mine shaft. In honor of the miners, the bottles feature a story of each man on the back; facts such as how Edison Pena who is believed to have run 10km a day
underground and how Claudio Yanez requested tobacco but received
nicotine patches instead. The wines are also numbered in the order in which they were rescued.
The Design
Through the type treatment of "Chilean Winers" runs a vertical line that signifies the mine shaft and how far the men were underground. The tube that the bottle comes in was designed to resemble the Fenix 2 rescue capsule and actually comes with a pile of gravel in which you have to dig out to get to the bottle.
Sure, the concept may be a bit absurd, but it's all in good fun and a way that Unreal was able to show their respect for these hard working and brave men.
