America's Favorite Pastime...

I'm a huge baseball fan. More specifically, I'm obsessed with the Philadelphia Phillies. In fact, I have an entire drawer devoted to Phillies attire. I have to watch every game and if I'm not home I need to find a place that televises the game. I've been to Citizen's Bank Park at least 5 times this season so far. Not only are the Phillies a great team to watch, but the activities at the ballpark take the experience to a whole new level. As opposed to Veterans Bank Park (the Phillies old stadium), Citizen's Bank Park features various activities for both adults and kids, restaurants, and multiple shops to buy merchandise. Like Citizen's Bank Park, new stadiums with crowd-pleasing attractions have been popping up all over the United States. A perfect example is the new Yankee Stadium. Not only does it have multiple restaurants throughout the park, it features a museum, a gigantic LED screen, over 1,000 high definition video monitors, and a sports bar! Another stadium, Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, features the Sun Pool Pavilion, where fans can cool off in a 385 square foot swimming pool! Cool, huh?

All this being said, I watched an interesting news article on ballparks the other day. Fenway Park, built in 1912 does not have any of these amenities yet it is one of the highest selling ballparks in the United States. Why is this? The tickets are expensive, the concourse is tight and crowded, the seats are extremely small and the structure of the stadium obstructs fan's views. So why would anyone want to see a game here? One of the most important reasons why this stadium is so popular is because the team has a great marketing strategy. They base their story around the stadiums history. As a result, the franchise sells out almost every night. Who wouldn't want to go the oldest ballpark in the Majors? Who wouldn't want to go back in time and pretend it's 1912? Fans love this stadium. It brings them back to the simpler times in life when a person's favorite thing to do was to visit the ballpark and root for his or her team play America's favorite pastime – baseball.
